Tips on Applying for financial aid application: Part 1 by elizreed

The college costs are usually beyond the reach of many students and most need to turn to some form of financial aid so as to be able to afford a college. This article is part 1 of the series that provides tips on the process of applying for financial aid that would help you win a good financial aid package.

Have you done your homework?

Not the school or college assignments and papers, but before applying for a financial aid, it is important to do your homework. This means you need to do a thorough research on the various scholarships and grants that are available to students.

Scholarships and grants can be found by studying a college web site, meeting up with people who have knowledge or by visiting the colleges, if possible. Internet is a great source for finding such information. Many web sites apart from college web sites offer you a checklist kind of a thing based on which they provide you their suggestions on which scholarships or grants would work for you.

Each one has its own criteria for awarding scholarship or grant. It is important to study them for there is a good chance that you may not be meeting the criteria of many of them. Understanding which ones work for you is very important.

Some programs allow the usage of money for any cost that the student has to make; however this may not be the case for all programs. Hence, it is important to understand what a particular program includes or does not include, what its terms and conditions are, etc.

Unlike loans, you are not supposed to repay scholarships or grants. Obviously, this makes such programs a better option than loans. However, keep all your options open and conduct a thorough research.

The History Of The Tutor Saliba Teaching Method

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:41 am

The History Of The Tutor Saliba Teaching Method by Christine Harrell

The tutor saliba teaching method is one of the newest methods teachers have to manage a classroom and plan lessons. But how and why was it invented? Why should it be used and what are the benefits to the students and teachers? Here we’ll go over this unique teaching method.

About Jeff Saliba

A few years ago, Jeff Saliba was working for a local office of a nationally known tutoring company. He was following the company’s pre-set curriculum and teaching methods. Jeff found that the methods worked most of the time, but for some students he needed to be a little inventive - something the tutoring company’s curriculum didn’t permit as long as he was working for them. It was then that Jeff split with his nationally known tutoring company and set out on his own.

Business was slow at first, but Jeff was convinced he needed to use the methods that work best for his students, not the ones that were approved by someone who didn’t understand how his students learned best. His persistence paid off and soon Jeff had a flourishing tutoring company.

Why The Tutor Saliba Method Was Invented

Jeff Saliba quickly discovered that certain students learned best by seeing the information, while others needed to hear or speak the information in order to remember and retain.

Armed with that knowledge, Jeff got to work designing his own teaching method, never dreaming that it might be useful to other teachers. Jeff wanted to focus on all students, unlike the traditional lecture method that simply focuses on students who prefer to hear the important information. Jeff eventually named his teaching method the tutor saliba - after himself and his tutoring students who inspired him to create a method that works for everyone.

How It Works

This special teaching method works because it realizes that students are individuals and should be treated as individuals, not just as one classroom. These students learn individually and that doesn’t mean one style is better than other, it’s just different. These differences are celebrated using this style.

This style is admittedly more difficult for teachers. Instead of just worrying about planning a lecture, teachers need to coordinate lecture with small group activities and visual learning tools like posters, bulletin boards and handouts.

Students who spend time in a tutor saliba classroom either immediately flourish or remain the same. Students who excel already under the most used lecture system, usually do well already. Jeff’s teaching method can sometimes boost their already good grades, but it isn’t abnormal if these students don’t see a large increase in their grades. It’s the other students, the ones who need a visual or spoken reminder of information, who see the greatest increase in their grades. This is because these students have been long ignored and never reached their full potential.

Teachers who utilize the tutor saliba teaching method are quickly realizing it’s many benefits. Once a teacher gets used to planning a lesson plan using this method, the extra work is quickly rewarded.
