Writing falls into different types such as technical writing, creative writing and business writing. As a field, technical writing has been gaining a lot of popularity and as a result, there has been an influx of freelancers who do it. Technology can be said to be a driving force behind all the excitement surrounding this sector.

When you decide to write down any material regarding a technical subject, it becomes technical writing. The main fields being written about in technical writing include computer science, IT, biology, consumer electronics and other fields like aerospace engineering. This calls for simplification of ideas to layman terms.

The technical writers focus on writing stuff in a language people can understand. They come in to save the day by writing out how to manuals for electronics products and other computer software.

If there is to be any effective work at the end of it all, the writer should work under close supervision of a technical expert’s work. He should be referring to an expertly written manual while he goes about the writing process. This way, the people involved in the writing of the material have all the understanding required to gather an audience.

Technical writing can be started in many ways. It is best that a technical writer sticks to a field within which he has a passion for doing. Therefore, is someone has a qualification or a liking for engineering; he can write about engineering manuals and keep readers abreast with the latest in that field.

Working knowledge about something is an added advantage because in this case the writer will just keep writing about a certain subject matter that he knows inside out. He will be interested in transferring those skills. He demonstrates the ability to break down complex arguments into palatable content.

The first thing to do if you are dreaming of becoming a technical writer is to join a technical writing association. Open up to ideas from others in the same field.

You should then get certification in the chosen field and this will as a result develop your techniques.

Moving? Use paper mache boxes and cheap moving boxes.

By Rodger Cresswell

Handmade candles of course are nothing new, the first were produced out of necessity.

It seems hard to believe to us in this day and age that to have light you could not just flick a switch and have the magic of electricity provide all the light you could ever want. Perhaps gas light was not quite so convenient, there was the need to use a taper or other form of lighter to ignite the gas having first turned the knob to get the gas to flow. Also gas was noisier and flickered which did not always make reading a book or newspaper a pleasurable experience. Where today we occasionally have to change a light bulb in the days of gas it was the very delicate gas mantle that seemed to explode the first time it was ever lit but then was fine until you accidently touched it, and the gentlest of touches at that, to see it disintegrate into dust before your very eyes!

But everything is relative as they say. Gas lighting to us may not seem very convenient or practical but it was a whole lot better than what went before. Just imagine those first handmade candles that were created from animal fat. The smell of fat being rendered is not the nicest odour so you can imagine what it must have been like to be sitting having the family meal as the wick burned down through the animal fat. Delightful!

Thankfully technology moved on in candle manufacture to produce something more pleasurable to use but let us not forget that the vast majority of people would not have been able to afford lighting produced using the better materials.

From those early days and far from ideal days many different candles have been produced, wide selection of shapes and sizes, colours to blend in with your home colour scheme, insect repellent for outdoor use to keep those annoying insects at bay and thankfully ones that are smokeless and dripless. It seems strange to think that the highest quality are those that are handmade which almost seems like we have gone right back to the beginning, but of course it is the material that they are mad from that makes all the difference.

Handmade candles do not come any better than beeswax dinner candles.

That seems like a bold statement but what we are talking about are candles that are 100% bees wax and poured by hand.

When you open the box it is obvious that they are not made from ordinary wax.

Removing the paper from each one that is individually wrapped reveals an elegant candle that looks too good to burn.

They look really well in a candelabra used purely for decorative purposes but lit they add a bit of class to any room or occasion.

You can buy smokeless candles that are also dripless. Being non drip there is the bonus that most of the wax is burnt and not wasted by pouring down the side and making a mess of your table setting. Candles with these credentials are first class, of that there is little doubt. But add handmade and beeswax into the equation and you have something so fine that anyone would be proud to display as their dinner table centrepiece.

Although these handmade candles are smokeless there is the delicate scent of bees wax that does not overpower when used for a dinner party or indeed an intimate and romantic dinner for two.

As you might expect, custom made candles manufactured totally from bees wax and individually made by hand definitely will not be cheap. But quality comes at a price and there can be no question that these are of a high calibre and can only be classed as top of the range.

Where to buy handmade candles? It can be difficult to source genuine handmade candles but there is such a variety of candles to buy online so you should find that a good quality candle shop or store including them in their offered range.

Handmade candles are part of a range of quality smokeless dripless candles

The main problem faced by large number of families is their budget being stretched all the time by increase in council rates, fuel, electricity, mortgage repayments and most importantly the food. Most of the stay at home mums take help from supermarket coupons or grocery coupon websites but below are some tips to turn your normal food shopping list into a healthy grocery list.

1. Do make a list - Whether you believe it or not it helps you to stick to your budget, reduce annoying mid-week trips and also cuts down on impulsive buys. Make it a habit and you’ll be amazed by the results.

2. Shop Clockwise - A US research found that shoppers who shop in an anticlockwise direction will spend on average, $2 more per trip than clockwise shoppers. So, next time you go shopping remember to travel clockwise.

3. Go with the season - Buy in-season fruit and vegetables. If there’s more demand so will be the supply and the price will be lower. The taste will be better, too.

4. Unit Pricing matters- Look for the unit-pricing information. It’s there on the shelf. It reveals which size within a product line is cheapest and how good the “special” is.

5. I’m on sale, buy me now - Buy toilet paper when it’s on sale. The reason is that packets of toilet papers don’t go off.

P.S. Besides the tips mentioned above the value of supermarket coupons cannot be ignored as they save you a bit of money while shopping. Below are some coupons worth more than USD 2000 to use on various stores.

http://budurl.com/2000dollarUSA Grab $2000 worth of supermarket coupons, Limited time only.

Home Improvement - Renovations Can Drive You Crazy!
By Linda Hancock

My sister and her husband decided to put new siding on their house and garage. They chose the colour, purchased the materials and eagerly looked forward to the finished result - several months ago!

Every day they look expectantly out the window hoping that the contractor will arrive to complete the work and are repeatedly disappointed when he doesn’t show up. It is so frustrating for them!

They are not alone.

Most people who are doing home improvement projects live to tell horror stories about their experiences. Following are a few things you should consider before you even start renovating:

1. Planning is key - Know what you want. Research the possibilities and discuss your ideas with professionals who can help to develop a blueprint or plan.

2. Hire contractor who you can trust - Ask for references and contact them with good questions about the workmanship, commitment and experience that they had with this contractor. What were the negatives? Were there things that the contractor did that could be considered outstanding?

3. A contract is vital - Make sure you have a written agreement that specifies exactly what is expected. When will the work be done? How much will it cost and when will payment be made? It is a good idea to consult a lawyer before signing the contract or at least gather information from the Law Society to ensure that you have all the bases covered. Avoid trouble by being clear and detailed.

4. Your budget might not be adequate - It is wise to add at least ten percent to your estimate. Make sure you have the finances or financing in place before you begin. You might run into unplanned situations which will cost extra. Most people who have done renovations state that it cost them more than they expected!

5. Completion might not be done by the completion date - Weather, delivery problems, sub-contractor schedules, and structural difficulties can slow projects down. Make sure that you don’t plan a very important event too close to the expected completion date. You might be very frustrated and disappointed if the work isn’t done!

6. Life will be stressful during the process - Prepare yourself for trouble. Your life will be disrupted for a period of time - perhaps longer than you ever dreamed would occur. Learn to laugh and get good at using your assertiveness skills to keep the workers on track.

7. Expect the unexpected - You likely won’t know what is behind the drywall until you remove it. Electrical and plumbing that was done decades ago might not be up to today’s standards. The materials you ordered might not be satisfactory once they are received. You may have to reorder more expensive items than you planned. Things break.

8. Flexibility is a necessary ingredient - Be ready to discuss and choose options. The things that you were so sure would turn out don’t always turn out. Be prepared to change the plans as you go.

9. You might not get exactly what you planned - The room might not feel as large as the one you imagined. The colour might not be the shade you dreamed about. A light switch might be in an inconvenient place. Figure out what things you cannot live with and tell the contractor immediately. Consider the costs of making changes as there might be some things that you can live with in order to save additional costs.

10. Celebrate - You have invested your time and money and now deserve to enjoy your new environment!

Sometimes the most difficult part of a home improvement project is handling your emotions. Take a breath. Relax. Like my old Norwegian grandmother used to say “This too shall pass”.

Top Five Tips For Student Success in Exams and Tests
By Anna Peacocks

Firstly, study smart and not study hard. A lot of students make this mistake when they are studying for a major test or exam. The week before exam, ask your teacher or lecturer for the topics will come out for test in order to get yourself prepared. Give yourself ample time to study for a particular paper. The important key is to understand the topics and not just memorize it. By understanding it well, you will tend to remember it better.

Secondly, pack your bag. Make sure everything you need is in the bag. This includes stationery like pencil, eraser, ruler and sometimes calculator. It is better to pack the bag the day before so that you do not panic on the next day.

Thirdly, have sufficient sleep during the night. The night before exam, make sure you have enough sleep. Have at least eight hours of sleep. It is important so that your brain and body can function well the next day.

Fourth, eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal in our daily life but most people like to skip it. Many students tend to forget their breakfast in order not to be late for school. This happens to all and not only students because in the morning, people are rushing. However students cannot concentrate at class. Students also can think well when they have a full stomach. It help fuels the body to help provide energy for us to have problem solving abilities throughout the day.

Fifth, have some time management. Before starting to do the paper, look through the paper to get a rough impression on the paper. Read the instruction given to each question and the marks allocated for each question. Next, you can start answering the easier questions in order to save time. Look through the clock so that you do not exceed time on allocated time for each question. Write neatly and accordingly so that the teacher who marks your answer sheet can see properly. When you are completed with the answer, check your answer to make sure you are satisfied with all the answer given.

To Understand Or to Memorize?
By Anna Peacocks

To reduce the need of memorizing a bunch of seemingly arbitrary facts, you should understand how something can work. Memory is a fundamental tool for human learning. It is encouraged for children to develop their skills to memorize even during their toddler years. However, true learning is not only memorized and expresses their ideas with memorization; they should demonstrate the ability to refine their ideas through communication with others.

If you memorize something, you are bound to forget, but if you truly understand something, you will take it to the grave and remember forever. Understanding is alike memory in that you can rehearse the information. However with understanding, you know the information in a way that allows us to use it in different ways. The simplest example is where you have memorized a shape and can see it in your mind, and that’s it. With understanding that shape, you are able to rotate it in your mind and see it from different angles. This is really what separates you from understanding and memorization. You can apply ideas to real life situations or case studies if you truly understand.

Memorization is difficult to apply ideas in real-life situations or case studies. Ideas are just as essential to the learning process as are facts. Ideas are important because they represent how different people observe the world.

And that’s where understanding comes in. If you manage to understand a topic, you can still reconstruct it if you are missing some details. However with memorizing, if you lose some details, you lose everything. If you strive to understand, you can solve problems even when numbers or components are changed.

Memorization is not a pure educational philosophy. Memorization should be applied in such a way as to exclude or trump the teaching of understanding. Both working together are key components to building knowledge. The bottom-line, as I see it, is that memorized knowledge can or likely should be part of your foundation or basic. But, it will only get you to not so far. It’s the ability to really understand something and how it works that will help you solve issues that just aren’t solvable with memorized facts alone.

The Perfect Optimizer is system repair software that is gaining a sound reputation as a worthwhile product to safeguard your pc from problems associated with adware and malware or unwanted cookies. This review looks at the software and its claims for protecting your computer and being an effective Windows registry cleaner.

The Perfect Optimizer has been designed by Miracle Technologies as a tool for repairing Windows specific registries. The idea behind Perfect Optimizer is that it has a form of memory manager which optimizes memory usage in your pc. The software has the capacity to provide ActiveX immunity. As a result, your computer is not hit by spyware, adware or any other undesirable software that may be able to access vulnerable parts of the system.

There is also a start up manager used by Perfect Optimizer to control all programs that run at the point of system start up. This is done partly to improve the overall performance of your pc.

Another benefit of the software is that it has the ability to clear all the unnecessary junk or temporary files with no more than a click of the mouse. There is also a capacity to repair damage done through Internet Explorer and the Windows operating system that may result from viruses or malware.

One of the best aspects of Perfect Optimizer is that it can increase the processing speed of your computer’s operation. When you include the software’s ability to create system restore points and registry backups in mere seconds, there is much to recommend about the Perfect Optimizer.

There have been some doubts expressed about the ability of the software to remove the more difficult registry files that Windows also cannot remove.

However, at a cost of $US44.82 http://app-products-info.webs.com and an 8 week 100 per cent money back guarantee, this product is worth considering.

I have a background in business as well as having worked for a boss in various employment from politics to the civil service. I am currently involved in a consultancy where I advise on business start-ups in the renewable energy and building sectors.

Technology evolves so quickly nowadays that sometimes it you find it hard pushed to get used to a new model of phone/computer/mp3 before a brand new one comes along. In most cases of technology the old is overridden by the new. Pretty soon the old is only sold by a few retailers, then, unless it is great enough to be marked iconic or future vintage it is thrown on the scrap heap never to grace the shelves of a shop again. One little invention, however, has battled against the odds and has stayed afloat despite the myriad of technical tools that have tried to replace it.

The pen. The mighty pen is still as popular as ever no matter how many computers, laptops, notebooks and palm pilot computers are invented. Nothing will ever be easier than picking up a pen and scrawling down some notes on a piece of paper. Digital version of the pen and paper need to be removed from their wallets charged up, turned on etc. etc. and what’s more you can’t even fold it up and put it in your pocket when you’re done. And you certainly can’t discreetly pass it to your best friend in class whilst your teacher drones endlessly on about equations that you know you will never ever use. Anyway, I digress.

In the same way that technology hasn’t come along and given us a good pen alternative, pens themselves haven’t had that much of a revamp for a while either. The simple biro - technically called a ballpoint pen has been around for years and years. The ballpoint was officially patented in the 19th century. Around 50 years later, Mr Biro updated it to make the ball move as it rolled along the paper. Yes there are roller ball pens and gel pens and fancy fountain pens, however it is the humble biro that we all call on when we need a pen, propelling it to the top of our office supplies list. Ever since Mr Biro stamped his name on the pen world, we’ve not looked back.

The majority of office workers have a computer. However without a pen and paper would they actually get any work done? The humble pen and paper is the place where ideas are born, where first drafts live and where the ‘To Do’ list is formed. The keyboard is great, the computer a necessity but what always did and always will come first, is the pen.

When people think about using a grammar checker, they usually have one thing in mind: a program that will find and correct grammatical errors. The truth is, however, that there are so many different types of grammar checkers. In fact, before investing in a grammar checker, it’s important to know what options there are so you can invest your money wisely.

First of all, you need to make sure that a grammar checker program corrects both grammar and spelling. Some programs will correct spelling, but don’t have the feature to correct grammar at all. Other programs claim to be a grammar checker, but in reality, its quality is so poor that it’s good for nothing. So, make sure your program has both features, as you will need them both for proofreading and making corrections in everyday typing.

Another thing that you should remember is that some grammar and spelling checkers are designed for specific groups of people. So, you should ask yourself why you need a grammar and spelling checker. Many people just use the features that come within their word processing program. However, there are other people who have learning disabilities who need much more. The checkers that come with most word processing programs are greatly generalized and may not find errors by people who have dyslexia or other learning problems. Another group of people who often need a top checker is those who are learning English as a second language. Unfortunately, word processing programs do not find these types of errors with their grammar and spelling checkers. It’s important to find a grammar and spelling checker that will be the most beneficial to you.

There are different ways that grammar and spelling checkers are made available. The feature is generally on any word processing software that you purchase. Many operating systems are now using some spelling checkers within their systems, along with some web browsers. There are also separate grammar and spelling checkers that you can buy separately, either online or at a retail store. This would be a program that you would install on your computer, specifically for correcting grammar and spelling errors. These programs usually do a much better job at correcting errors and giving suggestions for corrections. There are also programs that you can purchase and download online that will allow you to make corrections while you are working online. This might be a networking site such as Facebook, an email program such as Outlook or a blog site such as WordPress.

Take time to make sure that any new program is compatible with programs you may use and also your operating system. Before investing in a grammar and spelling checker, make sure it will work with the programs you already have. Any checker that you consider should be using cutting edge technology and have the ability to work within the most up-to-date programs, operating systems and web browsers.

Text to speech capability is another handy feature for any spelling and grammar checker. This amazing technology actually allows each sentence to be read out loud so that the writer will hear what he or she has typed. For those who struggle with using correct grammar, this is especially helpful because you can hear the errors as they are read.

A contextual checker is absolutely the best kind. This is a spelling and grammar checker that makes corrections based upon the content of the sentence. It can be complicated to know which word to use in a sentence to make it grammatically correct. Spelling is the same way - some words sound the same, but have very different spellings. Content-based corrections are corrections that are made based on the other words in the sentence.

This brings us to the next feature that a grammar and spelling checker should have - automatic correction. Usually, grammar and spelling checkers will suggest corrections, one word at a time. Rather than do this, an automatic grammar and spelling checker will correct the whole sentence, based on the content. Especially for those who struggle with using correct spelling and grammar, a one-click correction will give them a great advantage.

Another feature that some checkers have is error reporting. For those wanting to improve their grammar and spelling skills, this is a feature you won’t want to miss. A report can be generated that will show the errors that were made and how often they were made. This is especially helpful for a parent or teacher who is helping a student improve or for someone who is trying to improve his or her own skills.

There are many things to consider with a grammar checker. It’s not an easy decision to make, when you consider all of the options. However, like anything else, you get what you pay for. If you just use the checker on your word processing program, it’s going to find some errors. However, if you are finding that your grammar and spelling checker is not doing the job for you, it’s time to learn why and then invest in a program that will give you the greatest benefit and ability to write using the correct grammar and spelling.
